Hughenden, the National Trust house on the hill above High Wycombe that was Benjamin Disraeli’s home, is dressed for Christmas from Saturday 28 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027. This year’s theme is Victorian discovery: rooms turned into the night sky, a desert, a jungle and the deep ocean. You do not need to book, and it costs no more than a normal visit.
The quick answer
Christmas at Hughenden runs 28 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, with no booking needed and normal admission: free for National Trust members and under-fives (National Trust). Winter hours from 2 November: house 11am to 4pm, garden 10am to 4pm. Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, open on Boxing Day (National Trust).
What the rooms look like this year
The National Trust calls it “A Victorian Voyage of Discovery” (National Trust):
- The Dining Room becomes a “cosmic Christmas”, with hanging planets, stars and a Christmas tree.
- The Drawing Room is an underwater Christmas, with glowing sea creatures and shells.
- The Disraeli Room is a desert oasis, with lanterns, camels and a marketplace scene.
Outside, the Trust promises Christmas “make-and-do” activities for children, a Christmas wreath-making workshop, and a festive menu in the café with mulled wine, mince pies and a turkey bap, plus a December “scone of the month”.

Hughenden is open every other day of the Christmas season, including weekdays. Opening times for January 2027 have not been published yet, so 1 to 3 January, the last three days of the decorations, are still to be confirmed.

Under-fives and National Trust members go free, and a carer or essential companion visits free. Parking is included in the ticket for non-members and free for members; the car park at the top of the hill opens at 10am and its entrance is locked at 4.30pm. Accessible parking nearer the house is available by asking staff on arrival. The postcode is HP14 4LA, and the Trust warns it does not work in every sat nav.
When to go
The Trust’s own advice is that most visitors arrive between 11am and 1pm, which jams the car park at weekends. Arriving at 10am or after 1pm is quieter, weekdays are quieter than weekends even in the school holidays, and Saturdays are usually quieter than Sundays. The house has a capacity limit at Christmas, so there may be a queue to see the decorations, and visitors can be asked to come back later once it is full (National Trust).
Hughenden is about 1.5 miles from the centre of High Wycombe on the A4128 towards Great Missenden. Schools break up for Christmas on 18 December, and our school term dates page has the exceptions.
