Buckinghamshire publishes its Christmas bin dates around 18 December. Last year every round from 25 December to 9 January moved. Garden waste stops 14 December.

Buckinghamshire Council has not yet published its Christmas and New Year bin dates for 2026. On the evidence of the last two years it will not do so until the week before Christmas: the 2025 table went up on 18 December 2025 and the 2024 one on 19 December 2024. What is already fixed is the garden waste break, and the shape of the bank holidays, which put two Fridays and a Monday out of action.

The quick answer

No 2026 Christmas collection dates yet; expect them around 18 December on the council’s news page. Last year every collection from Christmas Day to Friday 9 January moved, most by one day, with Saturday catch-ups.

What is already confirmed for Christmas 2026

  • Garden waste has a six-week gap. There are no garden waste collections between 14 December 2026 and 22 January 2027. The service starts again on Monday 25 January on usual collection days (Buckinghamshire Council).
  • The bank holidays are Friday 25 December, Monday 28 December and Friday 1 January. Boxing Day falls on a Saturday this year, so the bank holiday moves to the Monday (GOV.UK).
  • Bins still have to be out by 6.30am on the day of collection, the same rule as the rest of the year (Buckinghamshire Council).
  • The High Wycombe tip is shut on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and open every other bank holiday, 9am to 6pm (Buckinghamshire Council).

Last year’s table, which is only a pattern

These are the 2025/26 dates, not this year’s. They come from the council’s own notice of 18 December 2025, which it has since taken down (the copy linked is the Internet Archive’s). They apply to rubbish, recycling, paper and food waste across the whole county.

Two things stand out. The slide did not stop at New Year: it ran on through the whole of the first full week of January and only ended with a Saturday catch-up on 10 January. And the council did not collect on either bank holiday, pushing those rounds to the Saturday.

This year the calendar is different. Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are both Fridays and the Boxing Day holiday is a Monday, so Friday and Monday rounds are the ones most likely to move. That is a reading of the calendar, not a council statement; the real table will replace this section when it is published.

Christmas trees, wrapping and electricals

The council’s 2025 notice set out the rules:

  • Real Christmas trees go in the garden waste bin after Christmas if you subscribe, cut up and with decorations removed. Because garden waste is suspended until 25 January, that means waiting for the first collection after the break.
  • Non-subscribers can take the tree to a household recycling centre, with decorations, lights, pots and stands removed, or use a charity collection.
  • Small electricals and batteries can go on top of the bin lid on collection day, or to any recycling centre. Never put them inside a bin: the council says they cause fires in collection vehicles.

The tip over Christmas

High Wycombe recycling centre, on Clay Lane, Booker, SL7 3DJ, is open 9am to 6pm seven days a week and does not need booking. It is open on every bank holiday except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. It has only 11 spaces to unload, and the council names weekend afternoons as the busiest times (Buckinghamshire Council). In 2025 the council said all its sites kept their usual winter hours on every other day of the holiday.
