Every council car park in High Wycombe charges £1.30 on Sundays and bank holidays. Handy Cross is £4.30 for 24 hours, the Swan £10.30 past six hours.
Sunday and bank holiday parking in High Wycombe is not free. Every charging council car park in the town costs £1.30 all day on Sundays and bank holidays, including Monday 31 August. It is a small amount, and it is the thing drivers most often get wrong, because most of these car parks genuinely are free after 7pm on a weekday.
Buckinghamshire Council runs 2,018 off-street spaces in High Wycombe, more than any other town in the county, according to its annual parking report for 2024/25. Marlow has 832, Princes Risborough 220 and Bourne End 82.
The main car parks and what they cost
All figures below are from each car park’s own page on the council website, read on 30 August 2026. Blue Badge holders park free in all of them.

Three of these are worth reading twice.
Kingsmead is the cheapest of the town centre car parks, at £2.80 for anything over four hours, and it stops charging at 5pm rather than 7pm. It has a 2.1 metre height restriction and a 72 hour maximum stay.
The Wycombe Swan punishes a long stay. Six hours is £4.30, the same as everywhere else, but the next band up is £10.30. There is nothing between the two. Anyone parking for a matinee and dinner should check the clock.
George Street has a two hour maximum on weekdays. It is a 24 space multi-storey, and the 12 hour rate of £6.30 exists on Saturdays only.
Easton Street multi-storey, which used to be the obvious town centre option, is permanently closed. The council points drivers to the Swan and Railway Place instead.
Free parking, and the traps
There are three genuinely free council car parks in the district, and none of them is in High Wycombe itself:
- Beaumont Way, Hazlemere, HP15 7BD, 58 spaces, no maximum stay
- Finings Road, Lane End, 47 spaces, no maximum stay
- Red Lion Way, Wooburn Green, HP10 0HT, 22 spaces, 72 hour maximum
In the town centre, free means outside charging hours rather than free. The council’s pages for George Street, Railway Place, Richardson Street, Kingsmead, the Wycombe Swan and the Wycombe Area Council Office all state in as many words that there is no charge outside the hours listed. The pages for Desborough Square, Desborough Street and Totteridge Road print the charging hours without that sentence, so if you are relying on an overnight stay being free at those three, check the signs on site.
Handy Cross is the exception to all of it. It charges seven days a week including bank holidays, with the first 30 minutes free and 24 hours at £4.30. It is the only council car park in the town that allows a stay of up to 96 hours, at £16.30.
The other trap is camera enforcement, which is not signposted on any parking page. The council’s annual report lists these live moving traffic cameras in the town:
- Castle Street, failing to comply with a no entry restriction
- White Hart Street area, entering a pedestrian zone
- Marlow Hill, box junction
- Oxford Road, box junction
- Amersham Hill, box junction
A penalty charge notice is £70 for a higher level contravention, or £35 if you pay within 14 days. Lower level contraventions are £50, or £25 within 14 days. The council issued 54,348 PCNs across Buckinghamshire in 2024/25 and ran a £3.6m parking surplus.
Permits and season tickets
There are no resident permits for council car parks in the Wycombe area. The council’s payment page lists resident car park permits for Chesham and the old South Bucks towns only. Wycombe residents who want a car park permit buy a season ticket at the standard rate.
Season tickets come in six tiers, and the price gap between them is large:

The full table is on the council’s High Wycombe area season ticket page. For a commuter who only needs one car park, Type 6 at Kingsmead is £653 a year on a five day permit, against £2,345 for the same period on a Type 1.
On-street resident and visitor permits are separate, run through MiPermit, and are digital only. The council no longer issues paper permits for anything. It has not published the on-street permit prices on its website, so this page does not quote them.
If your home is inside the town centre pedestrian zone, on Church Street, Queens Square, High Street or White Hart Street, there is a free access permit that lets you drive through to your own off-street parking. Residents get it at all times; businesses get 6am to 10.30am and 3.30pm to 6pm. It does not let you stop or park in the zone.
Blue Badge parking
A Blue Badge parks free in every council car park listed above, and free on street at disabled bays and pay and display bays, for as long as needed. On single or double yellow lines the limit is three hours, unless there are loading restrictions.
The badge does not cover double yellow lines inside council car parks, which the council states explicitly.
Two car parks in the town are Blue Badge only:
- High Wycombe Town Hall, Queen Victoria Road, HP11 1BB, 2 spaces, 3 hour maximum
- The Rye, Abbey Way, HP11 1AN, 2 spaces, no maximum stay
The Swan has 13 Blue Badge spaces, Handy Cross 12 and Liston Road in Marlow 5. Badge holders no longer need to pre-register a vehicle to use the Swan or Handy Cross, a requirement the council dropped. Its Blue Badge page still lists Easton Street alongside them, which has been closed for some time.
Station parking
High Wycombe station’s car park is run by Chiltern Railways, not the council, and it is the most expensive parking in the town. Its station page gives 620 spaces and these rates:
- Daily: £10.80
- Off-peak, weekdays after noon: £7.60
- Saturday or Sunday: £7.60
- Weekly: £43.20
- Annual: £1,814.40
Chiltern also notes that the top deck of the car park is out of use. There are 8 accessible spaces, free to Blue Badge holders, and 80 sheltered cycle spaces in double decker racks either side of the main building.
Handy Cross, 24 hours for £4.30, is less than half the station’s daily rate, and the council sells a Handy Cross season ticket at £958 a year against Chiltern’s £1,814.40. Buses from Handy Cross run to the town centre, Wycombe Hospital and Lane End with Carousel, and to Oxford, Heathrow and Gatwick with the Oxford Bus Company.
Marlow and Princes Risborough
Marlow’s council car parks are cheaper per hour than High Wycombe’s. Liston Road, 162 spaces, charges £1.10 for an hour, £1.90 for two and £6.80 for twelve, Monday to Saturday 7am to 7pm, and £1.30 all day on Sundays and bank holidays.
The Mount in Princes Risborough is cheaper still: £1.30 for three hours and £3.80 for anything over six, with 134 spaces and a last entry of 9.30pm.
Horns Lane, also in Princes Risborough, has the sharpest cliff of any tariff in the district. Three hours costs £1.80. The next band, up to six hours, costs £10.30. Its maximum stay is six hours, so there is no cheaper way to stay past three.
