Tabletop Republic won the most public votes at the first HWBIDCo Business Awards. Bun Squad, Elane Asian Market, Elwoods, Patch and Shopmobility also won.

Tabletop Republic, the games venue on the High Street, drew more public votes than any other business in High Wycombe’s first town centre business awards. It also won Best Family Fun Venue.

The awards were run by HWBIDCo, the High Wycombe Business Improvement District, which is funded by businesses in the town centre. Winners were presented at the Guildhall. HWBIDCo announced the results on its MyWycombe site on 5 October, saying the ceremony had taken place the week before.

Hundreds of votes were cast by the public, according to HWBIDCo. It did not publish the totals.

HWBIDCo’s announcement places Bun Squad on Oxford Road. The food hygiene register lists it at 42 to 43 Oxford Street, HP11 2DJ, which is the address we have used.

Why they won

HWBIDCo gave a short reason for each award:

  • Tabletop Republic has built “an inclusive and welcoming venue where families, friends, visitors and gaming enthusiasts can come together”, and won the public vote across all categories.
  • Elane Asian Market has become “a valued shopping destination”, with a wide range of products serving the town’s diverse communities.
  • Bun Squad has a growing reputation for quality food and customer service.
  • Patch was recognised for its professional services and its contribution to the local business scene. HWBIDCo did not say what kind of firm it is.
  • Elwoods was described as another business “making its mark in the heart of High Wycombe”.

The special Superhero Award went to High Wycombe Shopmobility. HWBIDCo said it recognised the team and volunteers who help people with mobility challenges get into and around the town centre.

Sue Hynard, chief executive of HWBIDCo, said the awards “shine a spotlight on the remarkable businesses and organisations that make High Wycombe such a vibrant, welcoming and successful place”.

She said the public vote was the most encouraging part. “Seeing Tabletop Republic receive the highest number of public votes demonstrates just how important these businesses are to our community,” she said.

Three of the winners serve food, and all three hold the top food hygiene rating of 5 on the Food Standards Agency’s register:

What it means for you

These are the businesses High Wycombe’s own town centre body chose to single out in its first year of awards, and one of them was picked by the public. The four with an address in the announcement are all in the town centre, a few minutes’ walk from each other.

If you have mobility problems and have not used Shopmobility, the award is a reminder that the service exists to help you get around the shops.

HWBIDCo called this year’s event the first. It has not said whether the awards will run again in 2027, or when nominations would open.

Our directory lists Bun Squad, Elwoods Hair and Beauty and Elane Asian Market, with opening details. For what else is on in the town, see things to do in High Wycombe.
