The Wycombe Swan has Operation Mincemeat in until Saturday 3 October, and Twelve Angry Men follows from Tuesday 13 October. Half term week, 26 to 30 October, brings Dog Man: The Musical to the Swan and a run of children’s sessions at Wycombe Museum, where the pumpkin trail starts on 11 October. November opens with the Marlow Half Marathon on the 1st and Remembrance Sunday on the 8th.

  • Operation Mincemeat, Monday 28 September to Saturday 3 October, first performance 7.30pm, Wycombe Swan, HP11 2XE. The Olivier Award-winning musical, in the main house for the week and listed as selling fast. Tickets from £39.75. (Wycombe Swan)
  • Hellfire Comedy Club, Thursday 1 October, 8pm, Old Town Hall. The Swan’s stand-up night for up-and-coming comedians, held in the Old Town Hall rather than the main theatre. Over 18s only, £14. The next is on Thursday 12 November. (Wycombe Swan)
  • Tiny Talk Time, Friday 2 October, 10am to 10.45am, Wycombe Museum, HP13 6PX. Stories, crafts and rhymes for two to five year olds, every other Friday in term time. £3.75 per child, adults need no ticket. The next one after this is Friday 16 October. (Wycombe Museum)
  • Hoof Hearted and The Dynatronics, Friday 2 October, doors 8pm, Wycombe Arts Centre, HP11 2PU. A night of local original music. £5 including booking fees, or a donation on the door. (Wycombe Arts Centre)
  • Rise From The Crypt, Saturday 3 October, doors 7pm, to 10.30pm, Wycombe Arts Centre, HP11 2PU. Band Open Mic Bucks marks its second birthday with Safe Ground, Tibia and Ember, plus a DJ set. Under 18s have a 9pm curfew. The listing gives no ticket price. (Wycombe Arts Centre)
  • Truth or Folly exhibition artist talk, Sunday 4 October, 1pm to 3pm, Wycombe Museum, HP13 6PX. The five artists of Fractured Land Collective talk about their exhibition, then take questions. Free, booking essential, with a suggested donation of £5. (Wycombe Museum)

  • Talk: The Bucks Battalion at War, 1914 to 1918, Sunday 11 October, 1pm to 2pm, Wycombe Museum, HP13 6PX. Lt Col Derek Plews follows the county’s Territorial battalion, which had companies in High Wycombe and Marlow, from the Somme to northern Italy. Free, booking recommended, suggested donation £5.   • Pumpkin Hunt Trail, Sunday 11 October to Sunday 1 November, 10am to 4pm on the museum’s open days, Wycombe Museum, HP13 6PX. Coloured pumpkins hidden around the museum and gardens, with a puzzle to solve and a sweet prize. £3.15 per child, recommended for ages three to 11.   • Chair Discovery Centre Open Day, Tuesday 13 October, 10am to 4pm, Chair Discovery Centre, HP11 2HE. The museum’s chair store, holding more than 200 chairs that are not on show at Priory Avenue, opens on set days only. Free, in one-hour entry slots, last entry 3.30pm, closed 12.30pm to 1pm.   • History on our High Street walking tour, Sunday 18 October, 10am to about 11.30am, Pann Mill. Museum volunteer Denise Lindsay leads a walk along the High Street, starting at Pann Mill and finishing at the museum. Free, donations welcome, book a place. (Wycombe Museum)
  • Susan Calman: Tall Tales, Tuesday 20 October, 7.30pm, Wycombe Swan, HP11 2XE. The comedian’s first tour in ten years. Ages 14 and over, £35. (Wycombe Swan)

  • Discover and Make: Nature’s Wind Chimes, Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 October, four 45 minute sessions a day from 10.30am, Wycombe Museum, HP13 6PX. Wycombe Museum’s galleries open Tuesday to Friday and Sunday, 10am to 4pm, and are closed on Mondays and Saturdays (Wycombe Museum).

Getting there

The Swan, the Old Town Hall, the Chair Discovery Centre and the High Street market are within a few minutes’ walk of each other. The museum is a short walk north of the High Street, over the railway footbridges. One caution: the museum’s event pages still point drivers to Easton Street car park, which has closed and is being demolished.
